“Still Serving America” is the motto of The American Legion. In Lolo, Montana this task is per-formed by Chief Joseph Post 135. The American Legion stands for Veterans, Youth, Patriotism, and a Strong Defense. Chief Joseph Post maintains two service officers to help our veterans in working out a claim with the Veterans Admin-istration.
Chief Joseph Post sponsors one or two boys to the American Legion Boys’ State each year. Our assigned school is Valley Christian High School. We also conduct the American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program in this school.
The Post also sponsors an eighth-grade Essay on the Constitution contest at Valley Christian and Lolo Middle Schools. First done in Lolo Middle School, this program is now a state-wide program open to all posts.
